CORAL GABLES

MAYOR'S SUPPORT IS

GENUINE, NOT PAID FOR

I am personally offended by the postcard I and many of my neighbors received from the Coral Gables FOP Lodge No. 7, which I assume is the Fraternal Order of Police. It impugns by innuendo people who have contributed to the campaign of Mayor Don Slesnick, as if those contributions have led to the need to ``clean up government.''

While I may have contributed to Mayor Slesnick's campaign, it is because I have known him as a dedicated, honest and sincere public servant.
Don Slesnick was quietly involved in critical social service organizations serving the least-fortunate people in Miami-Dade County for many years before he decided to run for public office. But, the impression conveyed by the FOP is that if you are a friend of Mayor Slesnick, you are buying improper favors from the city government.

That is obnoxious.

Most of the residents of Coral Gables consider the mayor a fine and upstanding gentleman who has generously given his time and energy to make our community and its city government better in so many ways.

To suggest that our friends and neighbors who put blue and white signs in their yards supporting Mayor Slesnick are buying favors or contributing to unethical government is offensive to me, to them and to our city.
